Sangita Kalanidhi Vidwan Shri D.K.Jayaraman [or DKJ] as he is fondly remembered by his innumerable fans holds a special place in the firmament of Carnatic music. He was unique because his music was both chaste, adhering to the classical tradition, and also universally popular, a combination rarely achieved. His contribution to music is in the large repertoire that he brought out in his concerts, many of the songs popularised by him singularly, and the vast following of disciples, many of whom are popular musicians in their own right.
